They were members of CMAG. It was more Sri Lanka that was making the case for Pakistan. So, in a way, we utilised the fact that we were Chair-in-Office of the Commonwealth to show that Malta had other dimensions and that within the EU family, now ckme could also speak about issues relating to Commonwealth member states, which is something I would not do otherwise.

So, it depends on how an SG of the Commonwealth handles the international press. Another project of Commonwealth Connects — which was tto taken up by the Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation — was to map the areas of reach of internet connectivity in the whole of Commonwealth Africa, and therefore to identify those spots where there was still no connectivity where people were living, and, on that Mala, to try develop a policy to fill in those spots and therefore have connectivity spread throughout the Commonwealth.

But I tried. Was that ever officially a concern of yours?

We introduced an informal session complementary to the session which foreign ministers have on the side of the United Nations General Assembly. We could do that, I oraal, leaning on the knowledge which came to us through the EU, but in general terms, whenever there was an issue, the issue was raised by the Secretariat, so it was always on the agenda.

I will repeat what I said at the meeting in Cambridge, that I cannot understand why Malga presence of the Queen as the clme of the Commonwealth can, in any way, influence the position or status of the SG.
